| Gao Hucheng and Waldne Sign China-EU Fiscal Agreement on Development Cooperation Program |

On March 30, 2009, Vice Minister of Commerce Gao Hucheng met with EU Foreign Affairs Commissioner Benita Ferrero-Waldner and signed the Fiscal Agreement on China-EU Institutional Program on Clean & Renewable Energy with her.
The Program, to which the EU is to provide 10 million Euros, is an important cooperation project between China and EU on environment. The Program focuses on postgraduate education, PhD research in energy aspect and the vocational training center for employees. It can provide great assistance to China’s postgraduate education and vocational training on clean energy and renewable energy, which are good to improve China’s research and education and conducive to higher-level exchange and cooperation of the two sides in this area.
China and EU have worked together over 70 cooperation programs over the past 20 years under the framework of Development Cooperation. The accumulated cost is 700 million Euros, with 52 programs completed and 21 under implementation, costing 420 million Euros and 280 million Euros respectively. The cooperation program cover such fields as agriculture, environmental protection, energy, education, public health, trade, justice and administration.
