Gao Hucheng met with Delegation of US-APEC Business Federationin Bali, Indonesia

  

On October 7, Gao Hucheng, Minister of Commerce of PRC, met with Delegation of US-APEC Business Federation headed by Donohue, the President of US Chamber of Commerceand CEO in Bali, Indonesia. The delegation members include chiefs from 15 companies such asDow Chemical Company, Eastman Chemical Company, Federal Express, General Electric Company, Google, Microsoft, Moody, and Wal-Mart. Gao Hucheng listened to advice and suggestions by the entrepreneurs on developing China-US trade and economic relations, and responded to issues of their concerns.

Gao Hucheng said that the Head of State of China and the US met this June in Sunnylands, California, and reached consensus on new relationship between great powers, pointing out the way for the future development of China-US relations. After that, during the fifth round of China-US Strategic and Economic Dialogue, China agreed to negotiate China-US bilateral investment agreement on the basis of national treatment of pre-accession and a statement on negative measures. This move shows China’s determination to further open the market and optimize foreign investment environment, which will bring new vitality for establishing new pattern of relationship between great powers. Besides, China’s government took a series of measures recently to deepen the reform and expand opening up, such as the signing of China-Switzerland FTA and the establishment of China (Shanghai) Pilot Free Trade Zone. China will continue to further expand the open areas, strengthen IPR protection, and optimize foreign investment environment. China welcomes US enterprises to expand business in China, making positive contributions to the development of China-US economic and trade relations, and MOFCOM would like to provide support and assistances.

Donohue said that American business circle has been devoting to deepen China-US economic and trade relations and been encouraged by China’s new government’s positive measures on reform and opening up. US Chamber of Commerce thanks MOFCOM for the support and assistances, and would like to promote the development of China-US economic and trade relationship, and hope to keep communication and contact with MOFCOM.

On that day, Gao Hucheng also met Bond, former US senator and Chairman of Kit Bond Strategies and his party.

Yu Jianhua, Deputy China International Trade Representative was present at the meetings.
